Hello, there. I'm here to talk to you about
spoilers. Spoilers are the pieces of information which "spoil" a game by revealing information about various aspects of the game, especially the story. Spoilers are not always bad, but sometimes they get bad press. I'd like to clear up some common misconceptions:
Spoilers
do not make you go blind.
Spoilers
do not make your palms grow hair.
It
does not drop off if you spoil too much.
Some folks enjoy reading spoilers, and that's fine. However, some don't like to read them, as they feel it ruins the surprises of the game. Whichever path you choose, there are some things you and your fellow posters can do to make life easier.
1. If you want to start a thread which contains spoilers, label either the title or the thread description with the word
*Spoilers*.
2. If you want to write or acknowledge a spoiler in a post, you can write
*Spoilers* in the title of your post. Leavnig scroll space by repeatedly pressing Enter takes up a lot of space, but it can protect posters from finding out the spoilers. Within the post, you should use the spoiler plugin by typing [ spoiler ] (without the spaces) at the start of the spoilers, and [ /spoiler ] (again without the spaces) at the end. For example:
Some people use font colours to hide spoilers. This is not such a good idea for a few reasons. First, although Internet Explorer has a highlight system which will cause the writing to appear, some other browsers and systems have different forms of highlighters which will not show the writing. Second, if someone uses the post in question in a quote the text will be visible in their reply.
These are very simple, even obvious points, but with the Wii and TP being released so soon, and with the games unavailable to some (such as Australians), you should be considerate of other people's choices concerning spoilers. By using the points here, you'll be just fine.
