Your advice needed...

OKay, forgive me if this is a noobish question but I'd like your opinions:

I am torn between to critters: a Medicham (lvl 50) and a Lucario (lvl 27) I've had both from pretty low levels. Which would be your choice? Using the Medicham, which is already on par with my team, or level up the Lucario and use it? I don't want to get into too many specifics, just your basic opinion. I'm leaning towards the Medicam because it has less super weaknesses (I think), but many others I have spoken to seem to think Lucario is the most awesome fighter in the world. Opinions or comments?

Medicham's weaknesses: Flying, Ghost

Lucario's Weaknesses: Fighting, Fire, Ground

There may be more, but that's all I can come up with off the top of my head.

Well, you need to look at movesets. Lucario can learn awesome moves like Aura Sphere, and can also learn Psychic (via TM), as well as Steel and dragon-type attacks, so it gives you more choices for movesets. Medicham has less weaknesses and is already on par with the rest of your team.

So my question for you is this: What moves does your Medicham know now?

You evil person. I was trying to avoid it being an overly complicated discussion of move sets and behavioral types

Let's see...off the top of my head... (I'm at college right now)

Hi Jump kick, Force Palm, Meditate, and Rock Smash (I think. Either that or strength). I've been lvling my Luc, so he's been chillin in the computer.

If this is for competive battling, you need to get rid of Rock Smash, first off. I'd also add Psychic or some other Psychic attack to the list. Meditite's attack stats are way higher than it's Special, so I'd replace Meditate with Calm Mind. Hi Jump Kick is good, but if you miss you hurt yourself, and though Force Palm can paralyze, it's not very powerful. I'd say stick with Brick Break for a fighting type move. You only need one good move per type. The remaining slot should go to a type to counter one of Medicham's weaknesses. I'm not sure if it can learn Shadow Ball or Rock Slide, but you may want to consider trying one of those to counter one of its weaknesses, which are the Flying and Ghost types.

Sorry that I got so complicated, but you don't really HAVE to take my advice if you don't want to.

It's appreciated, to be sure. I was thinking Med had more resistance to psychic because of it's duality, but I'm no expert.

Being that is Fighting and Psychic, and Psychic takes half the attack damage of a Psychic Attack, it basically neutralizes the Fighting weakness. I use Lucario since I think he is cool, and my current one on my Second Pearl Version (one is a friends that I borrowed since Aug 2007 and the other is the one I bought [which Lucario is on]) has an Adamant Nature and is around... level 50? It knows Aura Sphere, Force Palm, and two others, but eh. Sorry if this makes no sense... but eh... almost 12 AM.

No, it works like this:
Medicham = Psychic/Fighting

Fighting takes double damage from psychic attacks
Psychic takes half damage from psychic attacks

Therefore, Medicham takes normal damage from Psychic attacks.

depends on the rest of your team

but lucario is stronger, but weaker, than most types
and medicham is stronger/weaker than less types

so if you plan on battling a trainer with a lot of different types i'd use lucario

That's what I meant by more resistance. Instead of taking 1.5x or 2x damage, it would only take normal damage.

I do appreciate the input. I wasn't sure which I should focus on. Right now, I've been trying to bring Luc up to par with the others. I've also given her more poffins than the Medicham; would that make any difference outside of contests and making her like me?

I don't believe that it will affect its battle strength. Like you said, it's mostly just for contests and friendships.

I could be wrong, though...
