Wii Homebrew.

I'm surprised this hasn't been discussed before. Especially since the easiest and safest method to use wii homebrew requires a game that this site used to be based upon.

Yup. I'm talking about the twilight hack. The key to homebrew without modding your wii with modchips and that stuff.

Anyways, has anyone tried hacking their wii yet? Actually, I just wanted to try recently, and it has some pretty good stuff already.

I've tried Snes9X Wii. Which is a SNES emulator. And you can also hack your own VC games!!!

Yup, I have the original Super Smash Brothers on my wii right now. Compatible with the classic controller and gamecube controllers.. Full speed too.

Although I can't hack the VC games myself, there are ways to get some online. I don't think they've got goldeneye to work yet though... too bad.

Anyways.... discuss. Haha.

Yeah, I've heard about it a while ago, but haven't gone around to trying it.

All you really need is:
A Wii
A Twilight Princess game
An SD card
And some files you can get online to put on the SD card.

Just pop in the SD card, replace the save file, and you should have the twilight hack ready to install a channel or program on your wii.

Apparently when you start up a game of Twilight Princess, the snes emulator comes up?

What Emulators can you put on? can you put on like N64, ps1, or sega genesis?

Aren't the updates that Nintendo send, stop this hacking though?

There's quite a few emulators on it. I haven't seen one for PS1. The n64 one isn't that good... unless you change the rom on a VC game. (like someone did with smash bros)

That video seems to be an older version of the emulator or something, because games run close to full speed for me.

I'll try explaining what I know about the twilight hack.

-There are files you can find online for the twilight hack
-The twilight hack is basically a hacked save file.
-You have to replace your old save file with the hacked one
-When playing the game, if you walk forward to talk to the guy, or walk backward, it will launch that weird booting screen.
-You have to put an application called "boot.elf" in the SD card to run files. (for example, download the snes9x wii emu, and rename the elf file to "boot.elf")
-It can only be run with the twilight hack unless you install a channel.
-There is a thing you can install called the homebrew channel. where you could just put programs on the SD card, and the homebrew channel can recognize it without the twilight hack.
-You could install WAD's with wad installer. Which is basically a channel installer. (it's what i used to install the smashbrothers wad)
-and It all seems confusing, but it's not as hard as you think.

Just look up wii homebrew on google, and you should find a tonne of information on it.

As for the updates... usually they find a way to bypass their security within the week of the update.

If I could be bothered, I'd play Banjo Kazooie again. Do they have that?
Why'd you play the original SSB anyway? It sucks (now we have SSBB/SSBM of course).

Get the Twilight Hack at WiiBrew.org. It's the official place to get it: Twilight Hack - WiiBrew

You can also install the Homebrew Channel which eliminates the use of Twilight Princess. However, you do need Twilight Princess to install it. The Homebrew Channel

Also note that Twilight Hack/Homebrew Channel are completely legal. No copyrighted material was used to create them. The stuff you do with it however... It depends.
