Sorry if this is against the forum rules but here goes.
I was wondering about the wii mod chips. Does it affect online gaming? Do i need a special DVD Drive to copy burnt games onto discs? Thanks

I don't think anyones tested mod chips with online, but Nintendo would no doubt be against it, so I'm sure they'd affect your Wii negatively, especially after updates etc.

im fairly certain that the mod chip would kill all connectivity, just like the modded x-box or 360's

why can't the wii play DVD's
the 360 can....
the ps3 can....
but nintendo doesn't even think about it....

my mom thought the wii could play DVD's, that's why she got it for my b-day....

Well the mod chips are stealthed for the wii, so they are 99% sure nintendo wot find out about them, They don't give off heat and they don't change the firmware

all they have to do is have a system update that checks the chip. all chips have hardcoded software on it, and just by checking the chip they can tell if its fake or not.

the Wii doesn't play DVD's because then you dont have to pay for liscensing for DVD playback, raising the cost of the system. plus consols as dvd players suck so hard, just get a dvd player, its much cheaper (what is it now? like $30)

my cousin had a ps2 and he played dvds on it and it worked fine..
oh well
it would have meant that the wii would probably cost 285$ if it had a dvd player..

the wii doesn't play DVD's becasue it is a video game system not a DVD player. They figured it would be stupid to put a DVD player in a gaming system just to raise the price. they wanted to make the system as cheap as possible, so thye left all that extra crap out. Besides, everybody already has a DVD player anyway, who needs another one?
