| | | Wii Component Cable What is the Wii Component Cable for? And, is it sold separately or does it come in the Wii's box? Thanks! ^ ^
I have searched the internet, and all it comes up with is the price.

| | | Sold separately I believe.
And it's something to do with connecting it to the TV. Better quality or something like that, instead of the standard cables. |

| | it allows you to get the signal in 480P instead of 480i, a significant graphical upgrade to say the least. Interlaced pictures (i) are like a normal tv, where every 2nd line is drawn and then the next set of lines are drawn, this happens at 30 frames per second so you can tell its happening, but it does degrade the picture. Progressive scan draws the lines in sequential order at 60 fps, allowing for a crisper and better looking picture. you can only get progressive scan through a component cable for the Wii, and its well worth it as most games will be using 480P when playing (it will stil ofeer the option for 480i for those of you without component cables or tv's that are not progressive scan enabled).
more info if you want it: Progressive-scan video - CNET reviews
and yes, its sold seperately for 29.99

| | | because component cables are different from RCA cables, they seperate the video signal into its 3 colors, red, blue and green (the 3 primary light colors). it also allows for seperate audio cable (or cables) to be used. RCA cables have all the video transmitted across 1 cable. Progressive scan can only be accomplished via component cables. |

| | I figured it would just be better for me and everyone else to make a necropost instead of starting a newer thread and have someone yell at me..
Anyway, I'm a little late in getting a component cable for my Wii, I know, and I'm starting to search around for one. As I'm looking I'm finding that obviously, Nintendo isn't the only company that makes component cables; Many third party companies like Mad Catz and DreamGEAR make them as well. The only thing is, I have a substantial reluctancy about buying accessories for my electronics from third party companies; this due to the fact that the last time I bought something from a third party company, that resulted the frying (literally) of my iPod. So I'm looking to see if anyone can give me a valid opinion about the different component cables that are available (disregarding the price differences, I don't care about that). Are the third party ones better than Nintendo's [highly doubtful]? Are they just crap? Or, should I just go ahead and purchase the one from Nintendo? |

| | | I'd get the official one, because I also highly doubt the third party ones are better. | | The Following User Says Thank You to Mental For This Useful Post: | |

| | | I have had a few MadCatz accessories before for my PS2 and GBC, and I can say their equipment is decent. It might not be as "official" as buying it from Nintendo, but I'd say they get the job done. I don't have component cables for my Wii, though, so I can't give you any personal experience. You might want to read some customer reviews on Amazon or something.
In all honesty, people really don't buy a Wii for its high-quality visuals and presentation... that's usually done for the 360 and PS3. If you want to get them, knock yourself out, but the purpose is defeated because of the Wii's inferior hardware in the first place. | | The Following User Says Thank You to Twistkill For This Useful Post: | |

| | | I have the offical Nintendo one, and i couldn't be happier. the graphics are great (its hooked up to me LCD TV) it definately makes a difference. It's impossible for the 3rd party ones to break your system, but they won't make it any better than the official one, though they may be cheaper. i always like to go official, but i have the 3rd party LAN adapter and it works really well. the cord will run you around 20 or so
