Everyone wants to be a...NINJA! NINJA! NINJA! BELIEVE IT!

I have heard some good things about Aikido/Aikiko, but don't know enough about it to really say if it's what it's cracked up to be. My understanding is that it's pretty much Japanese Kung Fu. However, That's about as much as I know about it.

Hey guy... I don't want to do ninjutsu because of Naruto..
My uncle showed me a ninjutsu book and i saw the kind of movements/techniques they use, they were amazing and that's why i want to do it...Not because of an anime!
I can't believe it, Now i just can't want to practice the style i like because people thinks you're an addict to an Anime..

JJAB91 is an unknown quantity at this point
Ive been studying Bujinkan Ninjutsu for about 2 years now and am currently a 5th kyu. I find it alot of fun, best defensive martial art imo. I still suck at bujutsu though.

P.S.: NARUTO SUCKS.

EDIT: I also studied some Gung fu for a couple a months before I got into Bujinkan.

I can run away from stuff, that's about it.

I've seen worse than Naruto (not that I'm saying it's good). What is this Ninjutsu thing, anyway?

Basically it's the style that ninjas practice. It includes a variety of stealth techniques, weapons training, martial arts, and so on. While I have no doubts its a good style, there are other styles that teach a more practical form of defense.

Now to get on my philosophical soapbox. Whatever discipline you choose is totally up to you. Why you choose that art, again, is totally your decision. However, if you want to learn a style just to be a bad ass or to learn how to own people, I really think a military martial art is a better choice. Things like the Spetsnaz martial arts, Wing Chun, and the one Rollo mentioned. Those are CQC styles. If you go with something like Shaolin, Aikido, Tai Chi, etc...you will indeed learn how to fight. However, you also will be faced with the philosophical aspect of them as well. Not many people wanting to learn how to kick @ss are patient enough to take both the physical and mental training these present. As I said; if you are wanting to turn your body into a weapon, look at what your military uses. the USMC's MCMAP is a combination of various styles like Jujitsu and Judo.

That's fine. Just remember that many of the old martial arts disciplines have a strong philosophical element to them as well. Training of the body and mind. And that, my friend, requires serious discipline, patience, and dedication that goes beyond simply wanting to know some cool moves. Just a warning, nothing else.

Naruto is awesome. Especially if you watch the Japanese versions from the internet. Nothing censored out.
Anyway, I took Songahm Taekwondo for 3 years. I got 1st black belt and then my parents pulled me out after some disagreements with the Master. Plus it was 30 minutes away and my Dad got tired of driving me there 3-4 times a week for class. They thought about putting me at another place that was only 5 minutes away or so but they didn't,
partially because the Master told us that what I was learning at the other place wasn't even real Taekwondo, and that what I learned is taught by the Korean mob (whether that is true or not, I don't know). I had some good times, and I got 4th place in a regional tournament for sparring. I wish I did weapons in the tourney too, some of the adults where I went gave me praise for my techniques with weapons.

i did karate
nothing elaborate like this ninja stuff though
tae-kwon-do got boring real fast and nunchucks hurt...
i stayed for 2 years, got to the black-belt, then moved to a different state..

PS
i watch naruto when i don't want to watch anything else
it is a little humiliating when relatives watch it with me
but it helps me finish the popcorn..
