| | | That depends on your philosophy. If you are very logical and pragmatic, you would come to the realization that there are countless lives in the world; and at least a hundred of them will end up contributing the same things you do. By this perspective, there is little sense of uniqueness.
Or you can believe that everyone is special in their own way. This lends itself to the belief that while others can do what you do, they don't do it quite like you; ergo you do infact contribute something no one else can.
While the latter is a tad idealistic, it is more optomistic than the former. Huh, I just realized how similar the words optomistic and idealistic are... |

JJAB91, most people's lives don't do much difference for the World. BUT you are meaningful for the people involved directly with you and it does matter for them if you live or not.
Anyways that's what I think and that's why instead of going depressed I focus on how I have an impact on the lives of the people around me. |

| | | That's a rather bold statement to make to a French Canadian. In answer to JJAB's question, yes and no. If I died, the world as a whole would go on and I wouldn't have found the cure for cancer or something equally major. However, the people in my life would be affected as I'm important in their immediate environment. Every life is insignificant in the grand scheme of the universe, but if that troubles you look at your life on a smaller scale: you matter to your family and friends, and people here on the boards.
