Idea: Community blog.

Just thought of an idea for the site that'd be very easy to set up and could help the site significantly if people are willing to help out.

Basically, I want to set up a blog at something like http://blog.zeldagamers.com and then allow members to post to it. This wouldn't be a "what I did today" blog, I'd like members to post commentary on the latest Nintendo/Zelda news, editorials, and anything really that affects the gaming industry.

I wouldn't just let everyone go there and post straight away, but it wouldn't be a strict process to start posting. You could basically just PM with some details, I'd setup an account, and make sure what you're posting is good content etc.

If 10 members were in on this, and each member posted one article every 2 days or so it'd be a very active blog and a great help for the site.

Why would it help the site? Google and other search engines love blogs. Having a blog with constantly updated content would be a great way to boost the traffic and get some new members to the site.

I won't start this if there isn't any interest, and if you'd like zeldagamers to stick around then it'd be a great help. It won't be a very formal blog, and you can have some fun with your posts, as long as the grammar/punctuation is there and you don't swear etc.

Hmmmm sounds like an ok idea. I'd probably do it, just a suggestion, but maybe there could be other catagories for stuff to blog about? Oh well, still a cool idea

I'd be open to ideas for categories. As long as it fell into the gaming/tech arena it'd be fine. If it was too off topic it wouldn't help with ranking better in Google etc.

Now I'm wondering what to do. I could start the blog on this server, this would give me full control over the posters etc...OR I could make it on blogspot.com

Putting it on blogspot is actually a great way to get better rankings in Google, so I may consider it.

That'd be pretty cool. I'm sure many members would love to participate.

I'm an amateur comedy writer, which means if I were to write an article, it would be funny, but probably not as informative as most others.

Blogspot and wordpress are both really popular blog sites, but most people prefer blogspot. As far as controlling the users go, you could make Zelda Gamers Gmail account, and provide the writers with the password via PM. I doubt it would leak out, I think most people are pretty honest on here.

Some comedy articles would be great. :)

I'd like it to be a very laid back blog, and I think I will go with blogspot as it would just be more beneficial to the site. I guess I'd have to make a special forum for ZG bloggers too.
