| | | M.P.A.A. - I found a loophole ^_^ Its not really impotant but as most people know in the United States most films are rated by the Motion Picture Association of America(M.P.A.A. ie. G(all ages), PG(6), PG-13(13), R(17), and X(18)) Well Ive done some reading and I discovered something, the MPAA has no law behind it. It is strictly voluntary so someone like me(age 16) can just walk in and order a ticket for a R or X rated movie and legaly they cant stop me, all they can do is give me a warning. Sorry this thread is kinda pointless but I just wanted to let you american younglings know that you can go to the movies and watch whatever your heart desires. So if you want to thank anyone for this info...well im here

| | | Really? I've been denied service a few times in my earlier years, I could've whipped out the Code of Conduct and got a ticket to Naked Lunch. Of course, now I'm 17 and have seen Naked Lunch: there's 2 big things wrong with the title of the film.

| | | no, the rating is voluntary, just like for videogames, but most theaters will not show unrated movies. also, the law (in some states) does state that for movies that ARE rated, certain ratings are restricted to different age groups. plus the theater reserves the right to withhold service from anyone they choose, meaning leagally they have the right to not sell you whatever ticket they want

| | well actually, they don't make x-rated movies anymore
and its not against the law, but the movie people will still ask your age for an r-rated film, anybody here can watch pg-13 (but I mean, if they are like, 10 or lower they are gonna usually have someone over 13 anyways) |

| | | Well where I live in the US, to get into an R rated movie under the age of 17, you have to have a 17+ year old accompanying you, or else you can't get in. I'm really not all that sure in how this all exactly works, for I've never tried sneaking in when I was younger than 17...

| | | Do things like this really occupy the mindspace of kids in the US? I can't understand the appeal of sneaking into movies. If you want to sneak into somewhere you shouldn't be, try dancing on train tracks.. |

| | It only occupies the minds of a few kids in America. Personally, I have never cared about ratings. I would go to a movie regardless of whether or not it was R or PG-13. They can't keep me from seeing movies based on my age anymore since the theaters near me never play anything above the rating of R.

| | Well you may be right it's not against the law, but don't they have the option to deny you service?
I tried to sneak into a movie a few years ago before I was 17 did not go well. Wanted to go see freddy vs. jason but my friends and I bought tickets to Grind since we were all under 17. About 1/10th of the time there is a guard at the door before the movie and lucky us there was. So our plan was just to sit on this bench till the movie started but then the guard started questioning us, we said we were waiting for our parents (one of my friends is mexican and i'm half korean so didn't look so realistic). She said can I see your ticket, I shook my drink like I needed a refill and walked away and let my friends deal with the awkward conversation. We ended up seeing Grind | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
