Why is it guys play video games more than girls?

Most people automatically assume someone is a guy when talking on a video game forum unless it is obvious otherwise.
It's a mystery to me why but most of the girl 'gamer's I know mostly play minigames or RPG games like final fantasy, zelda and kingdom hearts. Still the majority of the people that play those games are guys.
What is it exactly that differs between guys and girls that makes video games unappealing to girls?

I blame the lack of vibration in PS3 but girls are more apt to get out and be the center of attention int he outside world.

Personally I blame the media.

The media hollywood crap brainwashes young people into thinking you need perfect teeth, a $50 haircut, $300 000 dresses ( I **** you not ), breast implants and a series of other stupid things that make us more or less attractive.

My teeth are pretty straight bar the two front are slightly off and an orthodontist reccomended I spend a few grand to get braces or a night plate.

There is a stigma attached to people who play video games labelling them as nerds or geeks. Yet we still have idiots who are blaiming the columbine massacre on doom 2, KMFDM and other assorted causes.

When the two killers Eric and Dylan walked into the library they screamed " everybody with white hats stand up! ". For anybody that doesn't know, white hats were ( and still are ) worn by the jock crowd at columbine as a uniform to let everybody know they are cooler then them.

Girls today are brainwashed into a particular state of mind. Most girls only like to shop talk about guy and everything else under the sun. They love clothes shopping, shoe shopping, makeup, getting their nails done, and generally being pampered. I beleive its all in the way they are raised and the way society and the media teach them to behave. I'm one of the few that escaped its effect on behavior. The only thing its done for me is to destroy my selfconfidence. Girls seem to be held to one standard of beauty-blond or light hair, light colored eyes, big boobs, big butt, and flat stomach with flawless taned skin. That makes it harder for me, a slightly overweight pale girl with big hips and an acne problem to beleive that people are telling the truth when they say I am pretty.

Sorry I'm ranting here, but my point is society has brainwashed the people of America.

I think the reason most girls play video games only because their boyfriends try to get them to play.
Reasons I belive girls play particular games-

1. Kingdom Hearts-It's friggin Disney (I have nothing aginst Disney I like them myself but its self explanatory)

2.Final Fantasy-Turnbased play so its easy to learn and there's usually a love story

3.Final Fantasy Z-2-Its female oriented-changing outfits, pop singers, and Yuna chasing after the man she's in love with

4.Zelda-everbody loves Zelda

5.Any minigames-the controls are easy to learn for each one, and it doesn't involve hours of playing to beat it

6.DDR-Its in the title Dance Dance, and its a simple game (I hate it because it spreads a false sterotype about techno, techno comes in many forms other than that annoying, repetitive crap they play on the radio-at least here in the states. There is more to techno than DJ Sammy! )

7.Sims-easy to learn and play, gives anybody the perfect dream life they can never get in the real world, sim's actions could possibly be considered cute

So pretty much if its easy to play, cute, has a romance story, easy to learn, or if its popular enough, a preppy girl might be influenced to play it.
Personally I love longer, more violent games myself. I love hack/slash fantasy games and I like certain shooter-I'm picky with those-I love couterstrike: source for PC, Halo 2 for xbox, Prey for Xbox 360, and call of duty 2 for pc, and I occasionally play battlefield 2 for PC. I like weird and little known games too. I'll never understand why other girls will never try other games they're missing out on a whole world of fun.

I completely and totally screw up the idea of a stereotypical female gamer, lol. I was into gaming ever since i could hold a control pad. The first ever console i can remember having was a really old one with audio casettes for games, lol. So properly retro and old school. Thankfully the mega drive was invented whilst i was in the right generation. I grew up playing cool spot, altered beast, streets of rage, sonic, alex the kidd, golden axe. I really should start replacing some of those :(

Then the release of the snes I had mario, snake rattle and roll, robocop and duckhunt. So i was definantly always going to be a geeky gamer. Having said that though, i was actually very popular in my first high school, but i still wasn't a really girly 'i love shopping' kinda girl.

I do like to play games like Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts and the sort, but i also love playing the need for speed series, the silent hill series, the resident evil series, the grand theft auto series, the spyro series, just cause. So i'm into a lot of games that really aren't that girly at all, lol. I gotta admit though, that girly games are the best way to get any girl into serious gaming, start them off on the light stuff.

Yeah, the commadore 64!! It was well cool. I think i might even still have it out in the shed if my parents haven't sold it. I had well loads of cool games. I even had the original very first hobbit game. It was awesome!!

I found a commadore 64 in the clean up. It had a bunch of games but I threw it out when I moved.

Same way here. I mean, I love Zelda and Final Fantasy (hate Kingdom Hearts, though, don't know why) I also love Sonic, Perfect Dark, Kirby, Resident Evil, Soul Caliber and other fighting games (such as Tekken, I grew up on Tekken!) and just about every violent video game you can imagine. I'm very bloodthirsty, I hate society, and I believe most of the young people in America to be beneath me because of their rampant, unequaled stupidity. Not to say that everyone is like this, but almost everyone I meet only care about who everyone else is dating, whether or not you have a boy/girlfriend (I consider such pursuits a waste of valuable playing time) and the latest fashions.

These. People. Make. Me. Sick. It seems they have nothing better to do than waste time, effort and money on things that will ultimately lend nothing to them later in life. Anyone else feel like this???

Fashion is not my bag, I always try to wear older clothes. I often keep clothes long past there expired date and they all have my musk on them.

A girlfriend can be fun in the teen years but often ends in pain, also the playing time is usually the truth. *flashback * About a year or so ago me and Dave used to play Guildwars and whenever he would ask me to come play my then girlfriend would sign into MSN.
