Yeah but that's what I mean by 'done badly'.

I doubt Nintendo would go down that road with a futuristic Zelda anyway.

What do you expect then? Link is a swordsman. Swords in the future are lightsabers. You couldn't make a future Zelda that wasn't a star wars rip off.

Seriously though, it could be done well.

Even if they managed to make a descent game it just wouldn't be a Zelda game. When you say Zelda everyone immediatly thinks of swords magic and big green guys getting owned by fairy boys in tights. You just couldn't translate that into other time periods besides ancient times.
