You have heard wispers of an ancient evil, you have some annoying thing, be it a boat, fairy or hat telling you to go find the mastersword, you get there, do you.
a) pull out the master sword
OR
b) leave it alone.

(imagine its possible to continue if you do-not pull it out, unlike all zelda games)

i ask this because, Half the time link gets the master sword, and ends up helping ganondorf more then stopping him.

Example
-Ocarina of time, lets Ganondorf get the triforce and takes over hyrule
-WindWaker, breaks the gods seal on his power and lets him roam the world freely with all his power intact
-Four Sword adventure, releases Vanti, meening ganondorf can go around setting up his evil land when the Links has to worry about vanti and dark Link.

So if you had freedom to choose whether to take the master sword or not, would you?

I'd take it, for want of anything exciting to do. If you never take the sword out, sure Ganondorf or Vaati or any bad guy may not technically trouble Hyrule, but where's the fun in that?

I'd take it, because honestly I pick up anything that's of worth and is free to me. Also, never ever bring a sword to a gunfight. Lightning fast lead > steel
