Boss of Square Enix tells Sony to sort its marketing strategies out.

UK, September 7, 2007 - Is it a super computer? Is it a Blu-ray player? No, it's a videogames console! PlayStation 3's schizophrenic marketing has come under scrutiny and the boss of Square Enix reckons Sony needs to sort it out.
According to Reuters, Square Enix president Yoichi Wada told a gathering of reporters in Tokyo that the future of PS3 "would be tough if its marketing strategy is not straightened up".
His concern originated from what he sees as an inconsistent marketing strategy for the console. He said: "Sony first unveiled the PS3 as a mighty home electronics product. Then, after some badgering from game companies, it shifted the position of the console closer to a game machine." Bets are now being taken as to what the PS3 will be marketed as next...

BentheMathwhiz is an unknown quantity at this point
The only console I haven't heard Square-Enix complain about in gaming news is Microsoft and I wouldn't be surprised if they had.

Even thought I think the play station sucks, I wouldn't count them out just because they have one system that isn't doing so well. Even the gamecube didn't do very good, and look, Nintendo is back on top. PS4 will probably be better.

This may get some people fired up, but I personally have no use for PS3. Any good games for PS3 are also available for XBOX 360. All I need are the Wii and the XBOX 360.

see the difference with that analogy is nintendo still made a profit for every GC sold, while the PS3 is bleeding money like a shot to the jugular, also the company as a whole is currently struggling, unlike nintendo which has massive amounts of money in the bank.

Sony has bet everything on the PS3, almost the entire companies future lies in the success of the PS3 at this point since the home electronics division and the movies division is struggling.

The PS3 is not a good gaming value right now, it may never be a good gaming value, but with that hardware and all of its media capabilities, it will become a pretty good value between 200 and 300 dollars.

only if Blu-ray takes off and wins the format wars... which i highly doubt since it is proprietary and not open source like HD-DVD. its the new betamax and sony is doomed to repeat its past failures.

I disagree, in fact, that's one of the reasons that blu-ray might end up taking off in the end regardless of all the negatives. The PS3 is doomed to eventually get some titles that are better on it than any other system. Maybe it's only 3 or 4 or 5, but then, on top of that it carries a lot of other powerful functionality, like HD-DVR, music center, chat box for internet, etc.

The thing is that aside from the price, which is caused by the un-necessary bluray player, the PS3 is a pretty good system. THe hardware rocks quite nicely, it's just that it's not nearly worth what they're charging. Especially not now when its functionality is incomplete. It will never be as good of a gaming system as the 360 or the Wii, but funny enough, it will actually be a decent value when the price point hits about 200 or 300$

from what i heard its an absolute ***** to develop for because of a horrible architecture due to the fact that its built to be so many things. that prevents t from getting stellar games.

Yeah, so? The gamecube never had a lot of games, but it still had some great ones. It's a bad value RIGHT NOW. There are no good games RIGHT NOW. It will always be **** to develop for, but people WILL develop some games for it. It will NEVER be the best game system, but IF you have the disposable income THEN when the price comes down it will be A FAIR DEAL FOR THE ALTERNATIVE FEATURES.

Are you saying that the hardware is **** and that it will never ever ever reach a price point at which it's worth it for someone with the disposable income who wants the features it has that the 360 lacks? Or even more so if bluray becomes dominant?
