| | | The Debate Section: Good or Bad? While in a way I think the Debate Section was a good idea, I'm also a bit against it.
Pretty much every debate is a Christian standards vs. Non-Christian standards argument, and if you are on the Christian side (which is where I am) you look like an idiot.
Basically every point I've given which supports Christianity has been challenged, usually by an "elite" which will make you appear on the losing side almost everytime and I'm getting tired of getting on and while I'm not going to change my viewpoints, feeling like an idiot because I'm challenging the views of a majority of the elites.
Please, lets get back to what this site is meant for, discussion and debates of video games, not debates against religion and it's values.
I see no harm in talking about music and sharing YouTube videos for example, but I just don't see the place for those kind of debates on a video game forum.

| | | Actually, I like these debates. It's a great way to let out your opinions. I don't really see what you mean about the "losing side" considering a lot of the stuff can't even be proven.

| | | I kind of agree with LoZ4life. Most of the topics that have come up for debate tap right into our values. My values come directly from the Bible, so, if I want to give an answer that shows my reasons, then I must quote or give my reasoning from the Bible. There are definitely those on this website who shun the Bible and for that matter all religion. Every time I give an answer, I have been waiting for the backlash. So far, it hasn't been bad, but I have seen some references from those who will remain unnamed that indicate they don't want to hear about religious beliefs that are different than their own, as if I am trying to impose my beliefs on them. This is not the case. It just so happens that this is the only way that I can explain my reasons for taking the side that I have on any given topic.
I have actually considered staying completely out of the debate topics for this very reason. On the other hand, if anyone wants more information on understanding the Bible and it's value today, send me a PM and I will be happy to help. No, I don't claim to be a complete know it all, but there is literature available (at no charge) to explain many things about the Bible including the book of Revelation. BTW mab, the prophecies in Revelation began to be fulfilled nearly 100 years ago. Just thought you would like to know.
One last note for this post: I can't help but notice some people making jokes about this type of value system. I have refrained from picking on others for their view of things and I would appreciate the same respect. Thank you.

| | | I can't say I've seen any resentment towards Christian beliefs, if anything the Debate section has shown how many of the forum's members have Christian beliefs. Although some of the Elite members are pro-choice, pro-evolution, etc, it's not a matter of belittling 'normal' members. I also don't see the point of a debate titled "Zelda: Good Game or Great Game?". The topics so far have taught me a lot about the people on the forum and the views and points of a bunch of people.

| | | I am not saying it doesn't have it's nice things about it, it is nice to see the different viewpoints, but I also think it doesn't feel right logging into a video game forum and if someone has the slightest of flaws in their reasoning in a non video-game debate having it being shown to them openly, usually attacked, by another person who has the opposite view.
I am not saying we should get rid of the debates section, just maybe be more careful about what we debate about, or at least state our reasoning and try not to attack it whether we agree with it or not.

| | | I haven't seen any attacks on views in the debates, certainly not on the basis of beliefs or religion.

| | I think the debate section is the best thing that's happened to this forum in months.
Besides, I haven't read a single post saying 'OMG RELIGION SUCKS!!' or anything of the like.
I think most of the arguments that come from the bible can't really be accepted by those who aren't religious. Using religion is kind of a fallacy because the truth-claim of your arguments depend on something that can't be verified (or disproven, for that matter).
That said, I have nothing against believing in something that can't be proven, it's just that I don't really think that it is a valuable argument in discussion.
Which does not mean you're disqualified for the debate section, you can still protect your christian beliefs without using bible texts as an argument. If you refuse to do that however maybe you should listen to Rollo
And for the record: I did read the bible, although I haven't read most parts in ages.

And nobody said you have to change your viewpoints. And from the looks of things, there havn't been any debates or discussions about video games for a while. And there is a problem talking about music if there is thousands of threads about the same thing. Quote:

Your extremely contradicting of your whole argument here too*see bold/underlined* and debating is about stating your reasoning, most people do.

| | Well this was a pretty much one sided debate. Where are the people who think this debate section is bad??? Oh wait, they're probably staying out of here. Haha. I kid.
