I didn't mind it, but I guess I'm still embittered about the Subspace Emissary. After I played that, I had to go buy a thesaurus to adequately describe the myriad ways in which I felt saddened and betrayed.

I think you're looking at it the wrong way. It isn't just some cheap cash-in attempt by Nintendo, it's Smash Bros. The game, that is. Subspace Emissary is like an extended Adventure mode.
