It should be discouraged by increasing the prices. That's what my school did. The problem is that people cannot control themselves. There are some middle school kids who weigh more than I do, and I'm in my 20's. That alone shows me that some intervention is needed to save people from themselves.

Well it doesn't really matter, alot of schools have corner stores close by, like my school. I guess getting rid of the pop machines and candy machines would probably make the school look more better. (More healthier, Safe and, clean school, is what everybody wants.)

I think that it should be up to the parents... let them take a vote. After all, the adults are the ones who should be in charge of what their children are eating. Many kids can make healthy decisions, but America's weight problem is proof that most people don't. Parents (most of them, anyway) know what's good for their children, and many have strict guidelines as to what their kids can and cannot eat.

So, if the majority of parents want junk food banned in schools, then yes, I think they should be, and vice versa.

Apparently not, it seems. There are a fair few obese people in America.

If it is a matter of parents telling their kids not to eat from the vending machines...that isnt gonna happen.

My parents didnt want me to drink caffeen when i was a kid, and so around them i didnt. But I drank dr. pepper all the time at school. Kids will get money and buy what they want regardless of what their parents say.

But if it like was said before, the parents go to the school board and have them taken out, then that would be fine. Cause it would be a district thing, not a everywhere thing.

It was done here in some schools and somewhat worked... When I say somewhat I mean that the kids/teens who had school lunch money just bought the food and ate it... But there was an issue that in some places, junk food restaurants were nearby so they went to eat there instead.

I also think kids and teens would need to be also educated about the impact those foods and drinks have on the body. You know most of them eat it because they say it tastes good without really thinking. There's also some people don't know how to make food healthy and good tasting. Or they're just lazy and not even trying. Healthy food can be good if you know how to do it.

So in conclusion I'm for it of course. Diabetes, heart, kidney and digestive diseases aren't fun. Plus obesity isn't attractive at all. Oh and a healthy society means more productive people and less of them in hospital. This applies to kids/teens at school too.

While I believe that everyone should have the ability to choose what they eat, I also believe that junk food should be banned at schools. The reason I say this is because the younger you are the harder it is to see the consequences of what you do including eating junk food. Also, junk food can be extremely addicting. So while banning junk food at schools isn't right, it is good for kids in the long run.

edit: Some schools do not allow their students to leave campus during school hours, which prevents many students from going out and buying junk food.

Yep, my school switched to closed campus a couple years ago, it sucks.

I say it shouldn't be banned. It's their own damn fault if they become obese.

As said before, obesity isn't sexy and they will find out on their own. Especially since most teens are very considerate of their appearance; if they find out the hamburgers will increases the size of their trousers, they'll stop. And if not, meh.
