but 80 mph in a neighborhood is just sad
so i would have to say the policemen don't necessarily need a free drink | It's easy to criticize the way they do things, but a person really doesn't know how they will handle a situation until they are actually in it. Bear in mind that officers have to be authorized to do things like PITing, laying strips, etc. |

And of course, the judgment of every policeman varies. |

| | | I think that it's unethical for officers to accept that, because it is their duty to distribute their work more evenly to protect everyone. They are payed by taxpayer dollars, and things like this are like a second pay on top of that for people who want to influence officers to give them more protection than others. If that's the case, I wouldn't want my tax dollars paying their salary if gas stations will get more consideration than my home because they give free coffee

| | | I know this thread is a few weeks old, buuuuut.....
....I think it's fine that cops get gratuity. Free food and drinks here and there, sure, why not? It's not like they get it free everywhere, and it's a nice treat they get for putting their lives on the line for others. Yes, they may get payed with tax payers' dollars, but they themselves are tax payers.
I think they actually deserve it. Being a police officer is very difficult, and the stress levels cops deal with is a lot more to take than a clerk at the grocery store does. You'd be amazed at how much of a difference a free cup of coffee will make. I dunno... I feel that if you think something is wrong with giving a freebie to somebody who willingly puts their life on the line for you every day is wrong, then you're pretty selfish, uncaring, ungrateful, or a combination of the three. :/

| | | I think that cops deserve it. They're doing a duty that puts their life on the line, and it's only a small repayment that they get something for free, to show the publics gratitude. Those who think otherwise are just jealous. =)
