Depends on the student. I am one of those people that alot of people hate. I didn't really try at all and got decent grades(High B's - Low A's) I didn't do homework, I just copied it from my smarter friend. I just listened in class and basically could understand the stuff enough to get a good grade on the test. Others though needed to go home and study to really understand it. In reality school should be a well taught day with a little bit of homework to help understand the mechanics of what was just taught even more. However this really isn't the case.

I go to college and i am from sweden. Its my first years second term and we got kind of both. we go to school about 8 hours a day. With an average of 1 test a week. Plus regular homework. It kind of backfires cause like David said it make me feel hopeless. And i've never skipped school or anything and i had pretty good grades. But now i got bad grades and dont feel like going to school. THe only reason i go to school is cause i got such a great class.

Well, if you're in college, why did you take that class? Major or requirment? I go to school from 9 to 5 but it's classes that I like.

But on to the main topic. The thing with school and homework is that sometimes what the teacher gives for homework may not be what was taught that week or day in class, and it could be that the teacher is not delivering the correct material to the students or not presenting it in a formal manner.

Remember, a teacher can't teach someone, they could only present the information to the student so they could understand it in thier own terms. That's why, let's say in math, one student totally understands how to solve a difficult problem one way and other student has a different way.

It really falls down to what the teacher is presenting, whether it is sufficient enough for the students to understand well.

Well,I'm only in Gr.9...But I do enjoy the homework because it gives me a break between friends, the computer and just is something to do to unwind before you go to bed...If there isn't any good anime on,of course!

do homework - pass tests,
pass tests - good marks,
good marks - active social life.

sure; if you get good marks, you don't get in trouble went the 'rents and they don't ground you. So, if you're not grounded, then you can be active in your social life. :)

Nice theory. However, when you do homework, you risk missing out on some good social fun stuffs with friends.
